The STINAPA nature fee on Bonaire
What the $40 nature fee covers, who has to pay it, where you buy it and how long it stays valid. The rules as STINAPA states them.
What it is. Bonaire's two national parks are run by STINAPA, a foundation, and the nature fee pays for that work. The moorings, the rangers and the monitoring of the reef come out of it.
What it costs. Forty dollars per person, per calendar year. Since 1 January 2023 there is one price for everyone. The old split between a diver fee and a fee for other visitors is gone, so snorkeling, swimming and kayaking cost the same as diving.
Who pays. Everyone who enters the sea around Bonaire. STINAPA exempts residents of Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Sint Eustatius and Saba who carry an official ID, and children under twelve.
What it covers. The Bonaire National Marine Park, which is the water around the whole island and around Klein Bonaire, and Washington Slagbaai National Park in the north. One fee, both parks. The park is open from Tuesday to Sunday between 8:00 and 17:00 and admits visitors until 14:30.
How long it lasts. From 1 January to 31 December of the year you buy it, and not twelve months from the day of purchase. A stay that runs over New Year therefore needs two.
Where you buy it. Online, through the link on stinapabonaire.org. The QR code arrives by email, so keep it on your phone and check your spam folder if it does not turn up.
